Lodge St Andrew No 1318 History

In 1922 there were three Lodges holding regular meetings in the Province of Sutherland, namely Lodge St Gilbert No 790 in Dornoch, Lodge St Donan No 933 in Helmsdale and Lodge St Devenic No 1277 in Bonar-Bridge (no longer active). On 11th December 1922, 24 members of various Lodges held a meeting in the YMCA Hall, Main Street, Golspie with the purpose of establishing a Lodge in Golspie. A committee involving Brothers William Roberts, James Hynd, Andrew MacKay, Rev John Taylor. John Baillie, and George Murray was set up with Bro. G.Murray as secretary. A Charter was issued in the names of the Founder Members and on Friday 11th April 1924 at 2:30pm The Most Worshipful Master Mason of Scotland, The Right Honourable, The Earl of Elgin and Kincardine and a Deputation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland conducted the Consecration ceremony of Lodge St Andrew No 1318.

The Lodge met regularly in the YMCA Hall from 1924 until 1955 when it purchased The Fisherman's Welcome, Golspie where it still meets today.

A great friendship between Lodge St Andrew and Lodge Heart of Midlothian No 832 in Edinburgh has been established for some number of years with the two Lodges exchanging visits on an annual basis
